dell' Ugo (Brisbane) 09






There are 17 restaurants, café’s and bars listed over one and a half blocks of ‘Little Stanley’ an area on South Bank, Brisbane, close to the Convention Centre, museums, art galleries and gardens. It’s a street separated from Grey St only by this row off shops and eateries, all of which have double street frontages with open eating areas on one side. I was pleased to try a couple of them during a short stay in Brisbane. Del Ugo is distinctly Italian with a typical menu. My friends and I had mussels

for starters, naturally they called them Primi Platti, which were served with some brochette- toasted bread if you like, which were great to sop up the soupy/sauce. Both these were good serves with good taste without being in any way exceptional. Mains were also very good Italian dishes. Handsome serves the Tuna, although rather more than seared,
was quite fine and delicate. Spatchcock was cooked for too long and was drier than I would have liked. Pick of the night was home made paparadelles with shredded rabbit which was a special not on the regular menu. There is a special quality in home made pasta, it’s almost a different dish to that dried stuff you get in packets at the supermarket, It’s mostly the texture and this was first class. We didn’t indulge in desserts. In all it was a decent meal, largish serves, well prepared and a bit on the expensive side of average. Soup $18, entrée about $20 to $25 and mains around $35.Score: 13.25/20
